5 for a Moment

Dear Cailyn,
Tomorrow morning at 9:10 you turn 5 years old!  5!  That is one whole hand! I can't believe my first baby is already 5.  When you have a baby, everyone tells you to enjoy each moment because it goes by so fast.  Everyone is right.  You have grown up so fast and while I wish it could slow down, I have loved every minute of watching you grow into the beautiful little girl you are today.

I want you to always know how special you are to me.  I know I tell you this all the time, but I love you so much!  You have brought so much joy to our lives and continue to do so each and every day.  You have a heart that shines as bright as the brightest night star.  When others are hurt, your tears are pure worry for their well being.  I will never forget the day I came home from work crying and feeling hopeless about the situation I was given.  You hugged me tight, wiped away my tears, then cried with me.  The situation was much too complicated for a 4 year old mind, yet you knew in your heart that mommy needed some affection.

I love seeing you as a big sister to Bryce.  He adores you in every way.  The things you have taught him and continue to teach him are things he will carry with him his entire life.  I admire the way your eyes sparkle for Bryce when he accomplishes a new task.  The way you sigh out of frustration then try to explain it again when he doesn't understand something gives me a sense of adoration for the way your heart is set on teaching him new skills.

I also admire your eagerness to learn about the world around you.  The way you wrinkle up your face gives away the fact that your mind is twisting and turning.  While we can't always answer all of your questions, we encourage you to keep asking.  I'm often amazed at the things you remember-right down to the tiniest detail.  You have the ability to hear or see something once and remember it years later.  Determination is something you don't lack and I hope to help you keep this throughout your life.

Cailyn, you have come so far from being the "peanut" that we once called you.  Please remember that as you continue to grow up and become more independent that I will always be here for you.  I will be here to help you with each step and stumble in your path of life.  Always know that you can come to mom for love and support-no matter how big or small the problem is.  I look forward to working through these situations with you and helping you grow from them.

Finally, always believe that you can do whatever you want to do in life.  As a 4 year old you have wanted to be a doctor and an artist.  You can!  Never let go of your dreams.  You have many talents and they will take you far in life.  I am excited to watch you succeed.  I believe in you and that you will touch many lives just as you have touched mine.  As my first born, you truly taught me what unconditional love is.

Thank you, Cailyn, for filling my life and heart with an overwhelming sense of euphoria.

     Love Always,

                    Mommy <3

Jaime-Happy birthday to your sweet "C"! I love the memories we all share of our first pregnancies. Seems like yesterday!

Kylie-you are too sweet. I haven't decided when I will give Cailyn this letter, but I'm sure it will be some night when we are sitting in the kitchen arguing over curfew, a boy, or where she was last Friday night :)
